Food Security

Faculty Leader: Dr. Kay Shimizu

2023-2024

The "Food Security' working group focuses on the interconnection between food security and human security, aiming to identify strategies for enhancing and sustaining food security in the city of Pittsburgh, particularly in the Oakland area.

During the Fall of 2023, the group undertook survey research to investigate the experiences of graduate students at the University of Pittsburgh regarding food access and the broader issue of food security in Oakland, Pittsburgh. By the end of the 2023-2024 academic year, the Food Security working group aims to produce a documentary that showcases the experiences of graduate students and highlights available resources for better access to nutritious and affordable food."
