Laura Wicker

MPIA '22

Laura Wicker is a second-year MPIA Human Security student at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. She completed a BA in Psychology and Sociology with a minor in French from the University of Pittsburgh. Over the past two years, she has worked with the Ford Institute for Human Security as a research assistant and student coordinator. Under the direction of Dr. Gemma Marolda, the working group has explored issues relating to migration in the Mediterranean. Additionally, she has been involved with Pitt's chapter of the International Insititute for Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) and the GSPIA mentorship program. She is currently completing a virtual internship at Jordan News, a news organization based in Amman, Jordan. Her areas of interest include human security and human rights, migration, conflict resolution, community and international development, and philanthropy. After graduation, she hopes to find a position with an organization dedicated to helping migrants.
